I've recently changed the way I filter spam: I was using SpamSieve running on my local computer, now I'm using Google Apps to host my email and letting Google's filters deal with the spam before it ever gets to me. SpamSieve is a great program, and served me well for a couple of years, but it only actually filtered out my spam if/when my MacBook was running, so if I was travelling with my computer, trying to access email on my phone was an excercise in frustration: without the computer running and pulling out spam, 99.9% of the mail delivered to my phone was spam.
In general, I'm happy with the change and it's accomplished what I hoped it would. However, I have noticed a few more false positives since I made the switch, i.e., legitimate messages incorrectly labelled as spam. Because I get so much spam (5000+ per day), I generally can't check my spam box for false positives, so often these emails just vanish. If you've sent me an email recently and I haven't responded within a couple of days, it's possible that I didn't receive your message. If you want to be sure to get ahold of me, some other options are:
You don't have to retype your whole message -- just let me know that you sent something by email earlier, and I'll search my spam box for it.
Sorry for any inconvenince this might cause.
After years of neglect, I've finally gotten around to paying a bit of attention to this site again. There's a new design based onTerraFirma1.0 by NodeThirtyThree, there are a few new features such as the Twitter feed in the home page sidebar (a transparent attempt to prevent the content from getting too stale), and soon there will be some new content. The content part is coming last because it's a lot less fun than the building part, which is why I'm a developer and not a writer.
No more two-and-a-half-year gaps between posts.
